This is an exciting time for VCAT
The Victorian Government has requested that, as president of VCAT, I review some key aspects of the tribunal's work. The review will look at how the community can access our services, the diversity of legal problems VCAT adjudicates, and how well we operate in delivering justice to the people of Victoria.
VCAT takes seriously our reputation as being unique in the world owing to our size and range of responsibilities. Over our first 10 years, VCAT has been a pioneer in the use of alternative dispute resolution practices for this very reason. VCAT is now embarking on the goal of becoming a centre of excellence in ADR: we are in the business of helping our communities resolve disputes in a way that is low cost, efficient and above all fair.
Now is the time for all Victorians to have a say about your VCAT. I am keenly interested to know your thoughts on how well we serve the community, and your ideas on what we can do it much better.
On this website you will find information about the review and how you can participate in it. There are many ways for you to express your views, such as sending in a written submission, sharing your experiences by completing our contact form or via the comment on topics section, or coming along to one of the community events taking place around Victoria this year.
VCAT remains committed to providing equal access to justice because this is fundamentally important in our democratic society. So I invite you to join with me in bringing VCAT into its next 10 years of life.
